Bedwetting is also known as nocturnal enuresis. While it is most often a problem for children – it can affect people of all ages. Here are a few remedies that can be considered for patients large or small that are challenged by this problem:
Arsenicum Album: Bed wetting in nervous, anxious, restless and fastidious children. Can be very chilly patients. Can wet the bed from 1-2:00AM.
Causticum: Can be useful in children who wet the bed especially in first sleep. Often the urine passes so easily that the patient is unaware of it. Can also leak urine on laughing or coughing.
Kreosotum: Sudden urging to urinate – can’t go quick enough. Sudden urging during first, very profound sleep. Wets the bed. Frequent urging at night – at night can’t get out of bed quick enough. Wakes with urging but cannot retain urine or dreams he is urinating and wets the bed. Urine flows during first deep sleep, from which the child is roused with difficulty.
Lycopodium: Involuntary urination during sleep. Passes enormous quantities of clear urine. Can also have red sand in urine. The typical Lycopodium patient craves sweets, likes hot drinks, has aggravations from 4-8PM, especially for many complaints. Can be a bit cross and in an ugly mood on waking.
Sepia: The patient feels she must keep her mind on the bladder or she will lose her urine. Involuntary urination as soon as the child goes to sleep at night. The bed is wet almost as soon as the child goes to sleep. Child is often indifferent, does not like sympathy, wants to get away alone.
